Data Support
The International Sustainable Seafood (ISSF) meeting in Paris, France;
Noting that the objective of the ISSF is to facilitate the effective conservation and management of tuna resources and the ecosystem to which they belong;
Recalling that tuna Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (tRFMOs) are responsible for tuna conservation and management with the objective to maintain the populations at levels of abundance that can support the average maximum yield on a sustained basis;
Noting that each tRFMO is supported by a scientific committee or staff, comprised of some of the world’s finest scientists who study and understand the health of the world’s tuna populations;
Recognizing that the scientific study of the tRFMO scientific bodies is only as good as the completeness and accuracy of the supporting data;
Determined to address the completeness and accuracy of data available to the tRFMO scientific bodies;
Resolves to:
1. Undertake to support the tRFMO scientific bodies to ensure that their findings and the data underlying them are as accurate and complete as possible;
2. Work with the tRFMO scientific bodies to provide data to them that is within their control;
3. Strongly encourage states, organizations and industry to provide data within their control to the tRFMO scientific bodies.
