ISSF President Susan Jackson wrote in the Foundation’s 2019 annual report Commitment and Collaboration, “The ISSF team has long appreciated that solving environmental problems means reaching across continents in the spirit of goodwill to share scientific information and resources, learn from each other’s insights and experiences, and make steady progress for the common good.”
In the face of a global pandemic, the ease with which we can literally reach across continents may be hampered. But ISSF remains steadfast in our commitment to share the latest tuna data, research, best practices and policy perspectives with global sustainability stakeholders.
A recent example is a series of webinars organized by the Global Tuna Alliance. ISSF policy and science experts are sharing resources, knowledge, and know-how on a range of topics, from “Traceability in Action,” to “Collective Best Practices for Well Managed At-Sea Transshipment.” The Alliance has made these presentations and more accessible to the public.

The ISSF team engages all constituencies in dialogue and projects that advance ISSF objectives. We serve as a global bridge among industry, environmental stakeholders, scientists, and RFMOs and their members.
In 2009, acclaimed scientists, leaders in industry and environmental champions launched ISSF based on shared concerns about the future of global tuna fisheries and a desire to do something about it – together.

The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) is a global coalition of scientists, the tuna industry and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) — the world’s leading conservation organization — promoting science-based initiatives for the long-term conservation and sustainable use of tuna stocks, reducing bycatch and promoting ecosystem health. Helping global tuna fisheries meet sustainability criteria to achieve the Marine Stewardship Council certification standard — without conditions — is ISSF's ultimate objective.
