International Plans of Action

The International Plans of Action are voluntary instruments established within the framework of the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries of 1995. These plans apply to all states and entities and to all fishers with the objective of assisting them in taking the necessary practical steps to implement the various facets of the Code. Four IPOAs have been developed to date on four main issues: seabirds (IPOA‑seabirds), sharks (IPOA‑sharks), fishing capacity (IPOA‑capacity) and IUU fishing (IPOA‑IUU).
